The Center for Agricultural Policy and Trade Studies at North Dakota State University is proud to announce that Director Dr. Sandro Steinbach, along with co-authors Dr. Dongin Kim and Dr. Carlos Zurita, has been awarded the 2025 Western Agricultural Economics Association (WAEA) Outstanding Published Research Award.

Their paper, “Deep Trade Agreements and Agri-Food Global Value Chain Integration, published in Food Policy (2024), explores how comprehensive trade agreements—those that include labor, environmental, and investment provisions—affect a country’s ability to participate in global agri-food value chains. The research finds that deep trade agreements significantly boost integration, influencing trade dynamics and economic growth in the agri-food sector.

This prestigious award honors research that demonstrates excellence in addressing critical issues, methodological rigor, impactful insights, and clear communication. The team will be recognized at the upcoming joint annual meeting of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association and WAEA, July 27–29, 2025, in Denver, Colorado.
